Young Mensa North descends on Manchester once again, ready to belt out some tunes and dazzle the inside of a private booth in Tiger Tiger with our talent.
That sounded slightly more impressive in my mind.
Tiger Tiger, Manchester, 19:00, Saturday 14th April 2018
"Karaoke" literally translates from Japanese as "empty orchestra" (or "orchestra of the void", if you prefer) and refers to the pursuit of singing along to a backing track of a ditty that delights your ears and larynges, and optionally everybody else's.
So if you want to scream out Total Eclipse of the Heart, then go for it - you'll get no judgement from us!
The venue, Tiger Tiger, contains a number of private pods for our vocalisation, complete with a few thousand songs, drinks deliveries and no pesky giant audience staring at you and shredding your nerves. If you still don't want to get up to sing on your own, not to worry - one of us will be all too happy to join you up there, though it'd be appreciated if you let us know what song you'd like to have a bash at so we're not completely unprepared.
(Conversely, if someone wants to join me in a duet of Ain't No Mountain High Enough, I will love you forever. I'll even let you choose which part you sing!)
Prices are £8 per person, for up to 16 people. The venue does need to know how many are coming ahead of time, since the pods come in different sizes and they can't be overfilled if more people turn up on the night - as such, if you do intend to come then let me know by Facebook or Telegram message, or shoot me an email at firstname.lastname@example.org.
For payment, there's this lovely PayPal button below:
Tiger Tiger is located at the Printworks, a few minutes' walk from Manchester Victoria Station and the Shudehill tram stop and bus interchange. If you'd like to turn up earlier for food, conversation and (possibly) a little liquid courage, then some of us will be appearing at the English Lounge bar just up the road, shown on the map below.
One thing to bear in mind is that Tiger Tiger has a dress code; to quote the site, "collar and shoes preferred, no sportswear or Timberlands allowed".
