  • Ackers Adventure, Birmingham - 17:00, Friday the 8th June 2018 to 11:00, Sunday the 10th June 2018.

What is a MY-Weekend?

A MY-Weekend is a Mensa Youth weekend, organised by MY-SIG. For those of you who aren't yet familiar with MY-SIG (Mensa Youth Special Interest Group), this is an international Mensa organisation catering primarily to those aged ~18-35, and those young at heart, hosting awesome annual summer camps and winter retreats, each time in a different country.

Additionally, many countries host smaller weekend events, such as this one, throughout the year. The UK's previous MY-SIG event, the Peak District Weekend we hosted last November, was an unprecedented success - so we're building further on the same formula!

The Venue

A stone's throw from Birmingham City Centre, Acker's Adventure Centre spans 75 acres of diverse landscape. We will have sole access to lounge areas, dining areas, kitchen, nine bedrooms, and multiple toilets and showers. The accomodation is disability-friendly and has a lift. Food and snacks will be provided - bring your own booze.

The accomodation capacity for the weekend is 26 people. As the previous weekend sold out in 48 hours, please book early to make sure you get a spot.

What does it cost?

  • The cost for the weekend: just £55 per person.
  • Individual activities are optional at extra cost, around £13.50 per person per activity (see "activities" below).

Included in the price:

• Bed and pillow in a 2 or 4-person room (first-come-first-served basis on arrival),
• Food, snacks and soft drinks,
• A house full of lovely Mensans.

Not included in the price:

• Sleeping bag,
• Towel,
• Alcohol,
• Board games (not obligatory, but always appreciated).

Whom is it for?

British Mensa and International Mensa members. Being a MY-SIG event, like MY-Camp and MY-NY, the approximate age of most attendees will be between 18 and 35, but there is no hard upper age limit - all who feel "young at heart" are welcome. The minimum age for the event is 18.

Booking

Early booking is essential to secure a place. [Book now] SOLD OUT. Payment for individual activities can be arranged later on an individual basis.

Getting there

If you are arriving by public transport, there are several easy methods from Birmingham City Centre, all around 20 minutes. Bus 37 departs from Digbeth Coach Station (Stop DS5). Get off at Manor Farm Rd and Ackers Adventure Centre is ten minutes away by foot. The West Midlands train from Birmingham Moor Street takes you to Small Heath Station in 5 minutes, from which the venue is only a 10 minutes walk.

By car, the postcode for the Ackers Residential Centre is B10 0DQ. This is off the Small Heath Highway, and the entrance to the site is through big black gates with a red Ackers Adventure sign and a yellow canoe outside. There is ample secure free parking. Please do not come to the ski centre or the Ackers base camp which is off the Golden Hillock Road, as there is no vehicle access to the residential centre from this side of site.

The venue is available from 17:00 on the Friday afternoon.

Activities

Activities include skiing, climbing, archery, canoeing, bushcraft and many others. These activities are on a self-arranged basis (we suggest getting together in the Facebook event discussion to find a group to go with if you are interested).

The cost is £135 per group of up to 10, per activity. This is for an hour and a half session with an instructor and includes all equipment. The only exception to this is the Tower Fan Descender and Zip Wire which are both £155 per activity, per group of up to 10. If you are interested in booking any of these while you are staying this needs to be done in advance. Please contact 0121 772 5111 for more details and to make a booking.
