Midweek Drinks & Discuss, 8th August 2018

This is another of our regular midweek drinks with an element of intellectual discussion - designed to give us something to challenge our minds a little and hear other Mensans' perspectives.

Yard & Coop, Manchester, 19:00, Wednesday 8th August 2018

For this month's discussion, our topic will be: why do we have consciousness?

We'll focus primarily on its potential purposes from evolutionary perspective, however all other views are equally welcome.

There will also be plenty of time for unstructured conversation about whatever we like. We always warmly welcome newcomers (and we're quite nice to old faces too), so please do come along!

The drinks selection in Yard & Coop is good, with lots of gins, beers & cocktails in particular, as well as a nice variety of most other drinks.

It tends to be quiet midweek, so should be perfect for chatting away to your fellow Mensans, getting to know us and most likely having a deep debate about anything from meteorites to chips, as well as our featured discussion!

Well be meeting at 19:00, which should suit anyone working in the city centre, who can stay in town to meet with us.

As most Mensans should be able to discern, this bar serves a chicken-heavy menu, with a selection of other dishes available including vegetarian options.

Yard & Coop is on Edge Street in the Northern Quarter, a short walk from Shudehill and Market Street tram stops and also Piccadilly Bus Station.

If you are driving then you may be able to park on Edge Street itself, though charges may apply. The controlled zone ends at the ring road, so you could park for free on Cross Keys Street or one near it, and there are several cheap car parks there such as the SIP on Mason Street, around five or ten minutes walk from the bar.

If you get lost

If you need help finding us then you can call or text the Phone Robot for directions, or "encouragement": 0144 360 6367

We also always keep a close eye on our Telegram group during all our events, so if you're lost or running late, you can get in touch with us there - and it's a great place to chat with us when we aren't running events, too.
