Midweek Drinks and Games in Sheffield, 3rd October 2018

Midweek drinks returns to Sheffield, and in traditional Sheffield style there will be games on offer too.

The Sheffield Tap, Sheffield, 19:00, Wednesday 3rd October 2018

In addition to general chit chat and catching up, this month’s games offerings will be The Resistance and Rummikub. The Resistance proved a popular choice at the Mensa Youth Weekend last year – much debating was had but eventually the good guys were able to out the spies. Feel free to bring your own games too!

In a change of venue, this month’s midweek drinks will be held in The Sheffield Tap, Sheaf Street. The pub is conveniently located next to Sheffield train station, having once been the station refreshment rooms. Although there is a door from the platform directly into the pub, station rules dictate you must exit the station and enter the pub through their front door (turn right out of the train station and walk about 50 yards, you can’t miss it).

The pub specialises in hosting a selection of world beers (hand pulled of course) as well as selling the beer produced on site in their micro distillery. They also have a decent selection of other drinks, including a range of lesser known gins. It’s well worth spending a bit of time looking at the décor – the pub was recently renovated, having fallen into disuse in the 1970s. Although the original mahogany bar was removed several decades ago, the team have made an excellent job of bringing the interior back to its former glory.

If you are driving, on street parking is available nearby on Paternoster Row and Brown Street. You will need to pay but charges only apply until 20:30 and most Sheffield on street parking has a £1 charge from 16:30 until 20:30.
