Playing games and programming computers are both activities well suited to the Mensan disposition. It's no surprise, then, that the regular attendance of Young Mensa North has some significant overlap with the vibrant Manchester indie game development scene - and especially with the independent local gamedev studio VoxelStorm.
Our friends at VoxelStorm have just completed a game called sphereFACE that they've been working on for several years, and have invited us all to their launch party!
- sphereFACE Launch Party by VoxelStorm - Friday the 12th of May at Apotheca, Manchester.
What and Why?
If you're a regular attendee at our events, you may already have seen or played this game before. Many of our members and their friends have been involved with VoxelStorm projects, including helping with sphereFACE development, and demonstrating the game at events. The company's director also helps to organise Young Mensa North events - in fact, this very blog is hosted on one of their servers. As such, we have a close synergy with the studio, and you'll see many familiar faces at the party - which is why we decided to make this a joint event.
Find out more about the party and RSVP on VoxelStorm's official Facebook event.
Apotheca is a quirky bar in the heart of Manchester's lively Northern Quarter. We'll be downstairs in the cocktail lounge, which is booked exclusively for the launch party, with its own private bar.
The venue is located on Thomas Street, next door to Bar 21 where we hold many of our midweek events. It's a stone's throw from Shudehill tram stop and bus station, and less than ten minutes' walk from both Victoria train station and Picadilly Gardens. There are two multi-storey car parks nearby, and cheaper parking is also available further north-east on the other side of Swan Street.
